Iritis (inflammation of the iris)

Inflammation of the iris is usually a secondary disease caused by allergies or bacterial or viral inflammations in other parts of the body. Rheumatism, tuberculosis, etc. can also cause iritis.

Iritis must always be treated immediately. Therapy targets the primary disease, while cortisone preparations are prescribed for the eye disease itself. If the inflammation of the iris has not completely healed, or the cause has not been entirely eliminated, iritis can flare up again repeatedly at intervals of weeks or months.
