Computer Users - Be Careful of Dry Eye
Many computer users suffer from dry, irritated, tired eyes. When people sit infront of the computer they tend to blink less frequently, approximately 7 times/minute opposed to the normal 22 times/minute. This causes increased evaporation of tears along with eye strain and fatigue.
To avoid these symptoms people should try to take frquent breaks from their computer screens. Researchers and Specialists suggest that a break every twenty minutes will help in reducing these factors. Also, moving the monitor so that it is below eye level will be helpful. This allows the upper lid to cover more of the eye and reduce evaportaion. It is recommended that people be more conscious of their blink rate, glare from the screen and general working environment in addition to the above mentioned tactics.
If you experience dry eye frequently and find it to be affecting your work place or home life then see your doctor. Artifical tears or punctal plugs can be prescribed to relieve the symptoms.
