Sleeping With Soft Lenses

Individuals wearing soft lenses for 24 hours or more are at a higher risk of a potentially blinding eye infection than daily wearers (less than 24 hours).

The main risk factor for infection is overnight wear. The risk of infection is five times higher if you sleep with soft lenses on. Infection to the cornea occurs because the contact lens stops the cornea from getting enough oxygen. Even with the intoduction of higher permeable lenses, the incidence of eye infection is still high and overnight wear should be strongly discouraged.
