Eye Testing for Children

Should young children under the age of three year old have their eyes tested?
Millions of children suffer from severe vision problems due to undetected eye disorders. Studies show that one in every twenty American children has a vision disorder. Many of these disorders are inherited from one or both of their parents.

Amblyopia (“Lazy Eye’) is an inherited condition that children can develop within the first three years of life. If left untreated, amblyopia can lead to blindness.

Early detection is the key to optimal eye health. Anyone with a family history of vision problems should have their children tested in the very early stages of life. Too often these diagnosis are not made until it is too late for effective treatment.

There are many new vision tests available for pediatrics. Parents should ask their child’s physician about having their eyes tested.
