Glaucoma Testing : How often?

How often should you get examined for Glaucoma? Many people who have glaucoma live normal active lives where their professions and personal lives are not affected by the affliction. This does not mean that people should not monitor their glaucoma examinations.

Individuals with low risk of Glaucoma should have their eyes checked periodically. Individuals with high risk factors including African-Americans, diabetics, seniors, and those who have Glaucoma in their family, should have their eyes checked more frequently. Physicians suggest that high-risk individuals have full glaucoma checks every two years.

It is recommended to have a complete eye examination for glaucoma:
1) At age 35 and age 40
2) Every two to three years after age 40
3) Every one to two years after age 60
4) Every one to two years after age 35 if there are any special risk factors, as stated above.
